An Update: Where Has Your Blogger Gone Edition

How in the world are we already in the middle of August? I keep putting off posting on the blog because I’ve been so busy; but now it’s the 13th and I’ve already read nine books. Oops.

Things that have happened recently:

  1. I had a first (yay!) and second (YAY!!) interview for a position I’m really excited about. After seven months of being out of a job (can’t believe it’s already been that long), I am so ready to start. Fingers are crossed.
  2. My purse was stolen. Bagnapped. This happened yesterday while I was at my favorite coffee shop. I got up to leave and lo and behold–bag was gone. I had to file a police report and cancel everything and it was pretty awful. My keys and my address are in the bag, so I hope the purse snatcher doesn’t want to add to his/her list of crime.
  3. Our toilet clogged and we didn’t have a plunger. This also happened yesterday, which was just a wonderful addition to a no good, awful day. As of now, it’s still not fixed. The boyfriend used every clean towel in the house. Fingers are crossed about this one, too.
  4. My baby brother is turning the big 13 this Saturday so E asnd I are driving down for his birthday party. I can’t believe he’s so grown up! When I asked him what he wanted for his birthday, he said, “I’ll make this simple. Skinny Jeans.” Skinny jeans??? I was expecting a video game or a toy of some kind, but no, he wants skinny jeans. (Coincidently, do you have any idea how difficult it is to find skinny jeans for a boy who is, in fact, very skinny??? If not, I’ll tell you: it’s difficult.)

So that’s about all the exciting news thats happening at Casa de Cass. Hoping things start to look up. I’ll be writing some reviews soon.

PS. Can I just say how happy I am that I kept reading the Sookie Stackhouse series even after the terrible third book? It’s so, so good. Even the ridiculous love triangle/quadrangle/whatever five angles is is done in a way that’s enjoyable. Thanks, Charlaine! I’ve read four of the books this month already, which means I’m all caught up–except for the newest one, which I might just have to get on audiobook because the line is so much shorter. Or maybe I’ll suck it up and buy it. We’ll see.

I have the next book in the Aurora Teagarden series waiting for me at the library, and I’m a little wary. Hopefully it’ll be wonderful, but I won’t hold my breath.

BBAW: Meme

A little meme, thanks to Book Blogger Appreciation Week!

1) What has been one of the highlights of blogging for you?
After years of reading blogs from the sidelines, I decided to start my own. It’s so wonderful to have a space to put down all the thoughts I have about the books I read. I’m looking forward to getting more involved with the community.

2) What blogger has helped you out with your blog by answering questions, linking to you, or inspiring you?
So many of the book blogs I read inspire me. Right now, my favorite is The Boston Bibliophile.

3) What one question do you have about BBAW that someone who participated last year could answer?
How do you stay on top of all the events going on in the book blogging world? Do you keep a list?

July Round-Up

I love the beginning of a new month and my nerd tendencies are already out in full force. I bought a new planner last night at my secret favorite store, TJ Maxx, and not only do I a) love planners, but I b) love blank monthly calendars. It’s such a great fresh slate.

July was a pretty good month for me reading wise, especially considering I read three particularly long novels.

I Finished Reading:

  1. Specials by Scott Westerfeld
  2. Club Dead by Charlaine Harris
  3. The National Book Award by Jincy Willett
  4. Embroideries by Marjane Satrapi
  5. The Sandman: Endless Nights by Neil Gaiman
  6. Dead Over Heels by Charlaine Harris
  7. The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters
  8. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
  9. The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
  10. Then We Came to the End by Joshua Ferris
  11. American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld
  12. Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris

For a total of 3,801 pages. Not too shabby, if I do say so myself.

My favorite book this month was Like Water for ElephantsAmerican Wife was a fun read but not one I’d recommend without reservation.

I’m looking forward to August and all the new books to read.
