Deuling Monsters: Team Hannibal

After reading American Psycho all by my lonesome earlier this year and being so very traumatized, I couldn’t resist this year’s Dueling Monsters battle run by Trish and Jill and hosted at The Estella Society. I will gladly take the side of anyone opposing Patrick Bateman, and defend him or her until I have no breath left in my body.

Dueling Monsters is a read-a-long where you can choose either Hannibal, and read Red Dragon, or Patrick Bateman, and read American Psycho. I, of course, chose Hannibal, as he is a) a superior monster and b) not a lady-hating, rat-training, Ralph Lauren-obsessed douche like Mr. Bateman.

When I read American Psycho I had my very first experience of “Oh God I hope no one else ever reads this book ever in the whole world.” It’s kind of an interesting experience reading everyone’s reactions to American Psycho since my own reaction was basically AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I HATE THE WHOLE WORLD AND I WANT TO CURL UP IN A BALL AND PROTECT MY VAGINA FOREVER AND EVER.

So, yeah. Team Hannibal. Team Manson, Team Focus on the Family, I don’t care, as long as it’s not Team Bateman.

  1. “A lady-hating, rat-training, Ralph Lauren-obsessed douche” pretty much says it all.
I wasn’t expecting Bateman to be THAT bad (or that obsessed with fashion). Which is why he’s gonna win, of course.

Oh dear. What have I gotten myself into? LOL I read Red Dragon years ago and so am going to take on American Psycho this time around. I’m already not liking the guy . . . At. All.

I am sort of liking Mr. Bateman. It makes me question everything I know about myself.

  4. Holy smokes, I have got to read AP, your comment cracked me up.

  5. I am planning to read American Psycho for this event, but I haven’t yet got my book – I should probably order it soon!
