Queer Library: It’s My Birthday and I’ll Add to My Library If I Want To

Today is my birthday and I am busy being glamorous and day-dreaming about all of the books I should treat myself to.

Any suggestions?

  1. Happy Birthday!!!

    My suggestions are:

THE ISLAND HOUSE by Posie Graeme-Evans
THE ROOTS OF THE OLIVE TREE by Courtney Miller Santo
THE HOUSE OF SERENADES by Lina Simoni
OWNING TREASURE by Joe & Laura Wilbur

They are all reviewed on my blog if you want to see what they are about.

Hope you have a great birthday!!

  2. Happy birthday! I hope you have a great one.

Just go to your local bookshop and look around, pick up a book and another one, etc. Ask the girl behind the counter to carry the first pile for you, place the second pile next to it, near the cash register, browse some more shelves.

  3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

I… I really got nothin’ that you don’t already know about. I’m currently reading Affinity and loving it, but you’re acquainted with Sarah Waters. How about anything about the life of Wallace Thurman, bisexual Harlem Renaissance figure who died tragically young? I just read his The Blacker the Berry for class and his life story is pretty interesting.

    • Color me surprised–I haaated Affinity. I think I threw it across the room, even. Wallace Thurman is new to me for sure, I’ll look into that. Thanks!

  4. Happy birthday! I have no idea what to rec. Jack 1939?

  5. Happy Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No recommendations, other than to buy them all!

  6. Happy Birthday! I’m reading The Picture of Dorian Gray for the fifth time right now, so that’s my recommendation….

  7. Happy birthday! I think Judith’s on to a good idea, just go with the flow and buy what happens to interest you.

  8. Happy birthday (a few days late)! I ditto softdrink’s comment above–just buy All The Books. :)

  9. Meg

Happy (quite belated) birthday! Hope you stocked up on lots of great reads.

  10. Happy (belated) birthday. I’m a bit behind in everything (including blogging) so I’m late to give you birthday wishes. Hope you got some good suggestions and good reads. I always ask for gift certificates to book stores on my birthday so I can get all the reads I’ve been coveting. The library doesn’t always work for me because then I have to read on a schedule. I like having the books there waiting for me! : )

    • Thanks, Jenners! I rely on the library for my LGBTQ book needs–I’m generally not going to buy a YA book unless I love it or the author, and queer theory books get super expensive. Luckily I live in a city with a great library system (and not so many people on the holds list…) so I can spend my money on, uh, shoes. And bags. I bought myself three purses on my birthday because I am a crazy person.
